There are homeless who live and sleep under the expressway and this is near our house. The city provided them with a portajohn for their toilet. In the first picture you can just see the head of one who is reading a book. The second one is one completely covered as it was cool then. That reddish embankment just beyond is the canal levee.
There are a lot of poor people in the downtown Augusta area and some will go to desperate means to get a few dollars from strap metals.
Needless to tell you but it is always exciting to see a moving train and hear the continuous whistle blowing and while I was on my walk this train appeared around the furtherest curve and then curved onto the street.
On my walk to the post office, I go right by this historic farm house called Meadow Garden. It is the home of George Walton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence as well as the youngest signer. He became governor of Georgia twice and served as U.S. Senator. The canal was not here orignally.
